Welcome to the Ocratic Arena: Where Your Gameplay Shapes the Future We are introducing a shift in the consumer producer relationship. Welcome to the Ocratic Arena, a player-governed first-person shooter, where players are not just consumers but active participants in the creation and evolution of their gaming experience.
Why This Game? There's always been a demand for this
Since the dawn of gaming forums desperation over autonomy of a games development has been evident. Players desire autonomy, Ocratic Arena elevates autonomy to the highest virtue. Ocratic Arena provides the ultimate form of autonomy – a game where you don't just play the game; you govern it. It’s in our nature to want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, the intense passion within gaming communities is a manifestation of that. By making your gameplay tied to the development of the game, we are providing a platform to utilise this part of the human spirit to its fullest extent The need for empirical experimentation with decentralised governance:
It’s hard to figure out how to manage governance with a huge number of participants, inherit flaws with flat hierarchies and more show there’s a need to push the needle forward in our understanding. Due to the high risk of compromising the quality of a governed product, experimenting with governance is not a good idea usually. Turning the governance itself into a gamified experience over a product people care deeply about solves this issue of experimenting with governance affecting the success of the product since the product itself is the experimentation.
Critiques And Why They’re Wrong:
"If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." - Henry Ford
The idea that it is impossible coordinate opinions enmass and make appropriate compromises to create the best product possible is obviously wrong.
It is improbable and extremely difficult.
We’re here to try and make a game of it and learn something in the process.
On Voter Apathy:
Apathy caused by long waits between updates is the biggest risk which is mitigated by weekly game balancing updates for all attributes that are easy to update such as damage, rate of fire, effect duration etc. So the players have autonomy over development to mitigate frustration with development time they can order the execution of approved updates to the game so they are responsible for what updates they want to see first out of those that are approved.
The Ocratic Tenets
1. Governance as Gameplay: Participation in governance isn't a chore; it's a core element of the gaming experience.
2. Simplicity amidst Complexity: Recognizing that complexity in governance can lead to failure, we strive for elegant simplicity in our systems.
3. Progressive Decentralization: We start with what's familiar and gradually introduce players to advanced concepts of self-governance and blockchain technology.
4. Values in Trust minimization: We aspire to reduce the levels of trust required where we can between players and developes, progressively utilising crypto to reduce points of trust.
